Department of Public Works Cancels Routine Trash and Recycling for Tuesday, February 2 Limited Openings for Drop-Off Centers

Today, Acting Director Matthew W. Garbark announced that the Department will cancel routine trash and recycling collections for Tuesday, February 2, 2021, due to the inclement weather and icy conditions of many alleys throughout Baltimore City as a result of Winter Storm Orlena. Tuesday’s collections will be made up on Saturday, February 6, 2021.

Recruitment for City’s YH2O Career Mentoring Program Begins Today

Baltimore City Department of Public Works (DPW) Acting Director Matthew Garbark has announced that recruitment is now underway for the 2021 Class of YH2O Career Mentoring Program participants.  Applications will be accepted January 25 through February 26, 2021.  Applicants’ interviews will be held March 8 and 9, the Program officially begins on March 15.  To date, 96 youthful Baltimoreans have completed the Program and gone on to work in entry-level jobs in DPW and other water industry entities.

Martin Luther King Jr. Holiday DPW Offices, Yards Closed on January 18

Baltimore City Department of Public Works (DPW) Acting Director Matthew W. Garbark reminds residents that Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Monday, January 18, 2021, is a City holiday.  DPW offices, yards and Community Collection Centers will be CLOSED. DPW requests that residents avoid placing recycling at Community Collection Centers when they are closed.

New Year’s Holiday Notice: DPW Offices and Sanitation Yards Closed

Baltimore City Department of Public Works (DPW) Acting Director Matthew W. Garbark reminds residents that New Year’s Day, Friday, January 1, 2021, is a City holiday.  DPW offices, yards and Community Collection Centers will be CLOSED. 

Community Collection Centers (for recycling drop-offs) will close at 3:00 p.m. on New Year's Eve.

Trash collections scheduled for Friday, January 1 will be collected on the make-up day, Saturday, January 2.

Christmas Tree Mulching and Collection Set to Begin January 2

Baltimore City Department of Public Works (DPW) Acting Director Matthew W. Garbark today announced that residents will be able to recycle their Christmas trees by turning them into mulch.  DPW will offer free tree mulching services to Baltimore City residents from Sat., January 2 through Sat., February 6.  Residents must bring their trees to the Northwest Citizens’ Convenience Center, located at 2840 Sisson Street, from 9:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m., Mon. through Sat.   For residents who cannot bring their tree for mulching, DPW will offer curbside tree collection from January 2 until February 6

Garbark reminds citizens that Christmas Day, Friday, December 25 and New Year’s Day, Friday, January 1 are holidays.  DPW offices, yards and Community Collection Centers will be CLOSED. Community Collection Centers will close at 3:00pm on Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve.

DPW Community Collection Centers Closed on Thursday, Dec. 17

Department of Public Works (DPW) Community Collection (Recycling) Centers will be closed to residents on Thursday, Dec. 17 due to the weather forecast.  Trash collections will occur as scheduled on Thursday, Dec. 17.

The five DPW Citizens’ Convenience Drop-Off Centers located at Sisson Street, Bowleys Lane, Reedbird, Quarantine Road Landfill and the Northwest Transfer Station will be OPEN.

DPW Community Collection Centers and Drop-Off Yards to Close at 1:00 p.m. Today

Due to the forecast of icy conditions expected this afternoon, Department of Public Works (DPW), Community Collection Recycling Centers and Citizens’ Convenience Drop-Off Centers will close to residents at 1:00 p.m. today, Wednesday, Dec. 16. 

This closure to residents includes the Community Collection Centers which are located in each of the 14 City Council districts and the five DPW Citizens’ Convenience Drop-off Centers located at Sisson Street, Bowleys Lane, Reedbird, Quarantine Road Landfill and the Northwest Transfer Station.
