How Bi-Weekly Collection Works

Bi-weekly recycling collections will operate using an A and B cycle system for curbside collection services:

Northeast and Northwest neighborhoods will be on Week A of the alternating schedule. 

Southeast and Southwest neighborhoods will be on Week B of the alternating schedule.

Recycling Day Stays the Same

Your recycling day will not change with these modifications. For example, if your typical recycling collection day is Thursday, it will remain on Thursday with this new schedule, and collections will occur bi-weekly.

Use Your Recycling Cart

DPW remains committed to bringing equitable recycling options to Baltimore households. DPW has delivered over 131,000 recycling carts (65-gallon) to City households. These carts have wheels for easy movement and lids to secure recycling.

There is no limit on how much recycling residents can put out on their bi-weekly collections.

In addition to the City-issued recycling cart, you can use any container you want: paper bags, cardboard boxes, old laundry baskets – you can even use a trash can (just mark it “recycling”). There is only one rule: Do not place recycling in plastic bags! 

Supplemental Recycling Drop-off Sites

Each Tuesday through Saturday from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.,  there are several recycling drop-off centers open in neighborhoods not receiving curbside service.

 The community recycling collection sites serving Southeast and Southwest neighborhoods (south of North Avenue) will be open Tuesday through Saturday from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. during “A Weeks”:

• DPW Property Management Facility, 115 S Kresson Street
• DPW Maritime Operations Facility, 3311 Eastbourne Avenue - In front of the building on Eastbourne Avenue
• Westside Skills Center, 4501 Edmondson Avenue-Parking lot accessible via Athol Avenue
• Digital Harbor High School, 1100 Covington Street-Parking lot next to the school, accessible via Covington Street

The community recycling collection sites serving Northeast and Northwest neighborhoods (north of North Avenue) will be open Tuesday through Saturday from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. during “B Weeks”:

•  Reginald F. Lewis High School, 2201 Pinewood Avenue., opens Feb. 8
• Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. School, 3750 Greenspring Avenue-Cul-de-sac in front of the building
• William S. Baer School, 2001 N. Warwick Avenue-Parking lot in front of the school
• Mergenthaler (“Mervo”) High School, 3500 Hillen Road - back parking lot accessible via 3500 block of Tivoly Avenue

Residential Drop-Off Centers Available

In addition, DPW encourages residents to use DPW’s five Residential Drop-Off Centers that are open Monday through Saturday:

• Northwest Transfer Station: 5030 Reisterstown Road
• Quarantine Road Landfill: 6100 Quarantine Road
• Northwest Residential Drop-off Center: 2840 Sisson Street
• Southwestern Residential Drop-off Center: 701 Reedbird Avenue

Eastern Residential Drop-off Center: 6101 Bowleys Lane

Recycling Right

DPW encourages residents to “Recycle Right” by putting accepted materials in their carts and avoiding the use of plastic bags and other contaminants. It is more important than ever to ensure the recycling collected is clean and does not contain trash.  The Recycling Guide and other information can be found on DPW’s website.
