DPW PROJECT REACHES A MILESTONE

 Exterior Walls and Roof Completed on First Druid Lake Water Tank

Baltimore City Department of Public Works Acting Director, Matthew W. Garbark today announced that a milestone has been reached in construction of the finished drinking water tanks at the Druid Lake Reservoir. Workers have now completed the walls and roof on one of the two storage tanks being constructed at the site.

The tanks are being installed to comply with U.S. Safe Drinking Water Act regulations to keep finished drinking water free of contaminants. Together, the tanks will accommodate 50 million gallons (mg) of drinking water: 18mg in the smaller tank and 32mg in the larger one. The larger tank is at the 60% completion mark.

The total cost of the completed project is approximately $140 million. The project is currently in line with the budget and on schedule to meet the Consent Decree deadline of having the tanks on-line and connected to the water system.

City officials broke ground on the new Druid Lake in May 2017.  Project completion is scheduled for Spring 2022. Guilford Reservoir and Lake Ashburton are also having tanks installed at this time.

Due to the extended tornado watch issued for the Baltimore area by the National Weather Service, the Baltimore City Department of Public Works (DPW) is cancelling ALL Solid Waste services today, Friday, August 9. In addition to the suspension of trash and recycling collections and mechanical street sweeping services, DPW is suspending operations at the Quarantine Road Landfill and at the Northwest Transfer Station and closing all Residential Drop-Off Centers.

Due to weather advisories issued by the National Weather Service, the Baltimore City Department of Public Works (DPW) is cancelling all trash and recycling collections and mechanical street sweeping services on Friday, August 9, 2024. The trash and recycling make-up day will be Monday, August 12.
