Don’t Pick Up These Hitchhikers: Zebra Mussels

Spring has arrived, which means more recreational activity at our three reservoirs: Liberty, Loch Raven, and Prettyboy. It also means taking extra steps to protect our drinking water from aquatic invaders: zebra mussels.  The discovery of these tiny, non-native mollusks at a nearby quarry has resulted in costly eradication efforts. 

DPW Offers Small Business Growth Events

Two Baltimore City Department of Public Works (DPW) programs designed to help small local businesses compete for contracts are looking for firms to register.   “Face-Time with Primes,” a small business networking event, is taking reservations through March 27. The event itself is Wednesday, April 10, at the Vollmer Center at Cylburn Arboretum, 4915 Greenspring Avenue.  Registration has also opened, through Aug. 30, for DPW’s Small Business Development Program.

Spring into Action! Sign up for the Mayor’s Spring Cleanup

Make sure that your community is ready to shine in the weeks ahead by participating in the Mayor’s Spring Cleanup. Baltimore City residents, neighborhoods, and civic groups can sign up by calling 311. An annual tradition, this year’s Spring Cleanup will take place on Saturday, April 27, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Look for the 2018 Annual Water Quality Report Online

Starting this April, the 2018 Water Quality Report will be available online for Baltimore City and County residents to review. This report will reflect that there were no violations of drinking water standards.   

Emergency Water Valve Repair Will Reduce I-695 Hawkins Point Off Ramps to One Lane

Emergency work to repair a water valve under Hawkins Point Road, near Quarantine Road, will begin next week, and could continue until late March.

This input is important to the development of the “Less Waste, Better Baltimore” plan, which will guide the City’s sanitation policies for the next few decades.
