New Year's Day Closure: Monday, January 2, 2023

In observance of New Year’s Day, Baltimore City Department of Public Works (DPW) Director Jason W. Mitchell, Ed.D., reminds residents that DPW offices and Sanitation Yards will be closed Monday, January 2, 2023.

The holiday closure does NOT impact residential trash and recycling collections. However, trash and recycling collections for condos and businesses WILL be affected due to the holiday observance.

10-Year Solid Waste Management Plan

The Baltimore City Department of Public Works (DPW) is updating the City’s 10-Year Solid Waste Management Plan (SWMP) and is seeking input from residents and other stakeholders – including environmental advocates; representatives from city businesses, schools, and hospitals; and those who live and work in the City.

The State of Maryland requires Baltimore City to adopt and maintain a comprehensive solid waste management plan that covers at least the subsequent 10-year period. The 10-year Solid Waste Plan must be both approved by MDE and adopted by the Mayor and City Council.

Winter Weather Conditions Contributing to Increase in Baltimore Area Water Main Breaks

Baltimore City Department of Public Works (DPW) is experiencing an increase in the water main breaks and water-related service requests due, in part, to freezing temperatures over the weekend and this week’s warmer weather. DPW is working expeditiously to make water main repairs and to respond to water-related service requests.

DPW Announces Public Meeting to Provide Updates on City’s Modified Sanitary Sewer Consent Decree Thursday, January 19, 2023; Meeting Starts at 6 p.m.

On Thursday, January 19, 2023, the Baltimore City Department of Public Works (DPW) will hold its annual public meeting to provide an overview of the work covered by the Modified Consent Decree (MCD) for Baltimore City’s sanitary sewer system, especially the Department's work over the past 12 months. The consent decree requires DPW to address overflows from the City’s sanitary sewer system.
