Cromwell Bridge Road Watermain Break Repairs Complete Partial Roadway Closures, Traffic Pattern Changes Still in Effect
Saturday Jul 1st, 2023
The Baltimore City Department of Public Works (DPW) has completed repairs on a 42-inch watermain located on Cromwell Bridge Road and Cowpens Avenue in the Towson area of Baltimore County. The two westbound lanes of Cromwell Bridge Road are now open and will operate as eastbound and westbound travel lanes.
Early Monday morning, June 26, DPW responded to Cromwell Bridge Road and Cowpens Avenue and started repair work soon after. The watermain repair was completed, Thursday, June 28. There were no reported water outages associated with the repair work. DPW will also restore a storm drain impacted by the watermain break.
As a result of the watermain break, a large cavity formed in the roadway. This was not a sinkhole situation. However, there is significant roadway damage continuing to affect the area. As such, construction work will continue on the eastbound side of the roadway for Cromwell Bridge Road. Cowpens Avenue will remain closed until further notice due to extensive roadway damage.
DPW is now flushing and testing the 42-inch watermain to place it back into service. During this process, the water service line to the Chinese Christian Church of Baltimore (1800 and 1802 Cromwell Bridge Road) was impacted. The church will be temporarily without water. DPW is working collaboratively with the church and the Baltimore County Department of Public Works to resolve this issue.
