During Mayor Brandon M. Scott’s State of the City Address on Monday, April 17, he announced that Baltimore City residential water customers are eligible to receive a one-time, 5 percent discount off their monthly water bill when they enroll in the Paperless Water Billing Program offered by the Department of Public Works.

To take advantage of this incentive, residents must sign up for Paperless Billing by Wednesday, May 31. After customers enroll in Paperless Billing, they will no longer receive a water bill in the mail. which would prevent them receiving a monthly water bill in the mail. The one-time, 5 percent water bill discount will be capped at $150 and applied to eligible water bills within two billing cycles. Customers who have already enrolled in the Paperless Billing Program will automatically qualify and receive the one-time discount.

“I encourage residents to go green by signing up for Paperless Water Billing, just in time for Earth Day,” said Mayor Brandon M. Scott. “This electronic billing incentive is part of our on-going commitment to offer residents an easier, more sustainable way to manage their monthly water bills and reduce paper usage to help sustain our environment.”

In January, Mayor Scott joined DPW Director Jason W. Mitchell Ed.D., to launch the Paperless Water Bill option as part of their continuing commitment to modernizing and improving the City’s water billing operations. To date, 3,915 water customers have signed up for Paperless Billing.

“We are excited to offer Baltimore City residents the option to go paperless, and to make a positive impact on the environment while saving money,” said DPW Director Mitchell. “Paperless billing is the latest in a series of upgrades to DPW’s water billing operations and this payment option is one small step we can all take to make a big difference that offers options for customers to view and pay their monthly water bill- anytime and anywhere. Throughout DPW, we are committed to providing ‘Best in Class’ customer service.”

Going paperless is easy as 1, 2, 3:

  • Log into the DPW Customer Self-Service Portal. If you don’t have an account already, create one at https://waterbillportal.baltimorecity.gov/#Register. (The activation code can be found on the back of the monthly water bill.)

  • Select the option to sign up for paperless billing on the account summary page.

  • Verify your email address and then click the ok button.

This Earth Day, Saturday, April 22, Mayor Scott and Director Mitchell encourage everyone to take small steps towards a more sustainable future.

By choosing Paperless Billing and making other eco-friendly choices, we can all help protect our planet and create a better community for future generations.
