Sewer Line Repaired; Overflow Stopped

A suspected broken sewer main, in the 900 block of Wilmington Avenue, was reported to the Baltimore City Department of Public Works (DPW) on August 28, 2019. This was confirmed on that date by a dye test to pinpoint the leak in the Maidens Choice Creek.

The broken main was repaired by a DPW contractor on September 19, 2019, and the success of the repair was subsequently confirmed by a leak test. The total overflow of water/sewage was estimated at approximately 16,000 gallons.

The public is advised to avoid direct contact with the receiving waters impacted by this or any other overflow.  Waterways throughout Baltimore City are considered impaired, and may not meet applicable standards for contact recreation, including swimming, regardless of the impact of a specific sewer overflow.  Accordingly, the City discourages body contact with all surface waters. Click here for additional information regarding potential health impacts, or call 410-396-4428. Due to the extended tornado watch issued for the Baltimore area by the National Weather Service, the Baltimore City Department of Public Works (DPW) is cancelling ALL Solid Waste services today, Friday, August 9. In addition to the suspension of trash and recycling collections and mechanical street sweeping services, DPW is suspending operations at the Quarantine Road Landfill and at the Northwest Transfer Station and closing all Residential Drop-Off Centers.

Due to weather advisories issued by the National Weather Service, the Baltimore City Department of Public Works (DPW) is cancelling all trash and recycling collections and mechanical street sweeping services on Friday, August 9, 2024. The trash and recycling make-up day will be Monday, August 12.
