Sewer Overflow Caused by Street Collapse
Friday Jul 8th, 2016
The Monday, July 4 infrastructure failure in the 500 block of W. Mulberry Street resulted in a blockage which released wastewater at the intersection of N. Pine Street and W. Saratoga Street. The release was sporadic and entered the storm drains leading to the harbor.
The blockage was bypassed on Wednesday with pumps and temporary mains. The total release was estimated to be approximately 48,000 gallons.
The Baltimore City Health Department and the Maryland Department of the Environment have been notified.
The public is reminded to avoid contact with urban waterways due to the risk of pollution. For more information about health concerns as a result of sewer overflows please go to: http://health.baltimorecity.gov/sanitary-sewer-overflows-sso.
