Application for Redevelopment Waiver: AMPORTS Rail Turn-Around and Track Re-Alignment

The City of Baltimore Department of Public Works is accepting public review and comments on this project’s application for a redevelopment waiver. If granted, the project need not comply with the requirements of the State’s Design Manual for quantity control.

Project Description:

The project has an approximate area of 1.4 acres and is located in the Fairfield Industrial Area near the intersection of Frankfurst Avenue and Vera Street. The project will consist of the installation of a rail turn-around system to allow locomotives to switch track on the Amports Facility. The turn-around will allow locomotives to remain on the property while switching tracks. The construction process will involve installing approximately 700 feet of track on a paved parking lot. There will be no net change to current impervious area or flow patterns upon completion of the work.

The Applicant is requesting a redevelopment waiver in accordance with Article 7, §23-7 of the City Code. The existing impervious area coverage meets the conditions for this waiver.

The Applicant will satisfy the water quality controls for this project by payment of fee-in-lieu of on-site stormwater management for 15,986 square feet (0.367 acre) of this project.
