DPW Offices, Sanitation Yards Closed on Labor Day City of Baltimore to Observe Labor Day, Monday, September 2

The Baltimore City Department of Public Works (DPW) Acting Director Khalil Zaied reminds residents that all DPW offices and sanitation yards will be CLOSED on Labor Day, Monday, September 2, 2024.

During the Labor Day closure, trash and recycling collection, as well as street sweeping, WILL NOT be conducted.  

DPW facilities closed on Labor Day to residents and haulers include:

  • Northwest Transfer Station, 5030 Reisterstown Road
  • Quarantine Road Landfill, 6100 Quarantine Road
  • Northwest Residential Drop-off Center, 2840 Sisson Street
  • Southwestern Residential Drop-off Center, 701 Reedbird Avenue
  • Eastern Residential Drop-off Center, 6101 Bowleys Lane

NOTE: Extended summer hours for DPW Residential Drop-off Centers will end on Labor Day. Starting Tuesday, September 3, the drop-off centers will operate from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Saturday.

However, the Northwest Transfer Station will remain open from 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Saturday, and the Quarantine Road Landfill’s Residential Drop-off will remain open from 9:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Monday through Saturday.

The City's 311 call center is OPEN on Labor Day and all other City-observed holidays. Service requests are accepted from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m., seven days a week, 365 days a year.

DPW reminds residents and water customers to report water and sewer emergencies to the City’s 311 call center. To report an emergency, such as a water main break, Baltimore City residents can dial 311, and Baltimore County residents can call (443) 263-2220. Requests can also be submitted online or through the Balt311 mobile app, available on  Google Play for Android users or the Apple App Store for iOS users.

Mayor Scott, Acting DPW Director Zaied Announce DC-Based Firm to Conduct Independent Review of DPW’s Safety Practices

Mayor Brandon M. Scott and Khalil Zaied, Acting Director of the Department of Public Works, have announced that the City of Baltimore has hired Conn Maciel Carey LLP, a Washington, D.C.-based law firm specializing in workplace safety, to conduct a thorough review of DPW’s safety policies, practices, and procedures, specifically as they pertain to heat safety. The firm began work this week, with a final set of recommendations expected by the end of September.  

TODAY, Friday Aug. 9: DPW Cancels ALL Solid Waste Services---Recycling, Trash, Street Sweeping, Landfill Operations Suspended and Drop-off Centers Closed

Due to the extended tornado watch issued for the Baltimore area by the National Weather Service, the Baltimore City Department of Public Works (DPW) is cancelling ALL Solid Waste services today, Friday, August 9. In addition to the suspension of trash and recycling collections and mechanical street sweeping services, DPW is suspending operations at the Quarantine Road Landfill and at the Northwest Transfer Station and closing all Residential Drop-Off Centers.
