On Thursday, January 18, 2024, the Baltimore City Department of Public Works (DPW) will hold its annual public meeting to provide an overview of the work covered by the Modified Sanitary Sewer Consent Decree (MCD), with a particular focus on the work completed in the last 12 months. The consent decree requires DPW to address overflows from the City’s sanitary sewer system.

The Annual Consent Decree Public Information Session will take place at 1800 Washington, Blvd., headquarters of the Maryland Department of the Environment (MDE), in Baltimore.  The meeting will begin at 6 p.m.

The annual meeting provides an opportunity for residents to receive information about DPW’s work to fulfill the terms of the City’s Modified Consent Decree, a legal agreement between the City of Baltimore and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the Maryland Department of the Environment, to address sanitary overflows from the sewer collection system.

Residents will be able to speak with DPW experts at individual learning stations on location. Covered topics will include preventive maintenance programs, upcoming sanitary sewer construction projects, water quality and compliance, and the Sewage Onsite Support (SOS Program) for basement backups caused by wet-weather events.

At the meeting, DPW is also offering a new, free Baltimore City DPW Sewer Heroes coloring book designed to teach children about keeping the City’s sewer system free from clogs and debris.

Online Registration
The meeting is free, and the public is invited. However, advance registration is encouraged. To register for the meeting, please use the following link: bit.ly/2024MCDAnnualMeeting
