Residents Urged to Clear Storm Drain Inlets While Temperatures Are Above Freezing

BALTIMORE, MD — With a break Sunday afternoon from sub-freezing temperatures, the Baltimore City Department of Public Works (DPW) is asking residents to help clear the storm drain inlets on their streets of debris, allowing runoff from the melting snow to quickly and safely enter the storm drain system.

While DPW’s Maintenance crews continue to repair damages water lines and meters, others will check and clear storm drain inlets along major roadways.

Residents can help make sure their own streets are allowed to drain by removing any litter, leaves, or other obstructions from the inlet grates.

With temperatures expected to return to below freezing tonight, and into single digits Monday night, this afternoon offers the best opportunity to clear the roads of standing water before it freezes over again.
