Celebrate the Region’s Drinking Water with Music, Art, Education and More at Dam Jam 2013
Friday Sep 6th, 2013
September 6, 2013 (BALTIMORE, MD) — Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake and Baltimore City Department of Public Works Director Alfred H. Foxx invite residents throughout the region to attend the third annual Dam Jam, a celebration of the region’s shared drinking water on Saturday, September 14, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The FREE event takes place at the Willow Grove Nature Center at Cromwell Valley Park in Towson, 2175 Cromwell Bridge Road, and at the nearby Loch Raven Dam on Loch Raven Drive.
Dam Jam features visual artists and craft artisans, live music, historic re-enactors, native wildlife presentations and more. In addition, DPW Clean Community Characters will provide important information on how to keep our waterways clean. New this year is a theater performance by the Shakespeare Factory. Attendees are encouraged to bring chairs, blankets and picnic baskets and experience the entire day's events. Food vendors will also be on site.
“This is a free, fun-filled day for families all over the region,” says Mr. Foxx. “We also want the public to learn how we obtain and process our drinking water and the responsibilities we all share in protecting and preserving our water supply.”
Free shuttles buses will run between the two sites. Sponsors for Dam Jam include Gannett-Fleming, Inc., CBS Radio and WTMD Radio.
Participating organizations include:
Baltimore County Department of Environmental Protection and Sustainability, Baltimore County Department of Recreation and Parks, Towson Arts Collective, MORE (The Mid-Atlantic Off-Road Enthusiasts), Inc., Prettyboy Watershed Alliance, Gunpowder Valley Conservatory, Carrie Murray Nature Center, Girl Scouts and the Cromwell Valley Park Council.
