We take it for granted when we turn on the faucet that clean, safe water will flow. But there are very real costs to providing drinking water, treating wastewater, and safely mitigating polluted stormwater runoff. 

Update: Temporary Road Closure at Loch Raven Reservoir

The Baltimore City Department of Public Works (DPW)  announced Friday, Jan. 4 that the temporary closure of Loch Raven Drive, between Providence Road and Morgan Mill Road, will last for at least two weeks. The road was closed Thursday, Jan. 3 , because of destabilization caused by heavy rainfall over the last several months.

Mayor Pugh Announces Baltimore's YH20 Water Mentoring Program now Accepting Applications

Mayor Catherine E. Pugh today announced that recruitment is underway for the next class of YH20 Water Mentoring Program participants.  Applications will be accepted Jan. 2 through Feb. 8 and may be downloaded from the DPW or MOED website. To date, over 50 residents have completed the program, which prepares young Baltimoreans for entry-level jobs in the water industry.

Baltimore Meets Restoration Milestone in Stormwater Permit

Baltimore City Department of Public Works (DPW) Director Rudy S. Chow, P.E., announced that Baltimore has met its stormwater discharge permit requirement to restore an equivalent of 20 percent of its impervious surface to the maximum extent possible.

Final Total Reported for Last Friday’s Sewer Overflow

Approximately 1.4 million gallons of stormwater mixed with sewer water overflowed into the Jones Falls last Friday, Dec. 28, as a result of infiltration from rains. This occurred at the structured overflow located at 428 E. Preston Street.
