City Bureau of Solid Waste Routine Services to Resume

Department of Public Works Acting Director, Matthew W. Garbark announced today that the Bureau of Solid Waste will resume the majority of its services beginning on Monday, June 29.  This includes recycling and trash collections, alley cleaning, cleaning and mowing, boarding, rat abatement, and other services. However, graffiti removal, bulk trash collection, and citywide mechanical street sweeping are still suspended for the time being. Residents’ normally scheduled curbside collection days for trash and recycling remain the same.

Household Hazardous Waste Drop-Off Days & July 4 Holiday Notice

Baltimore City Department of Public Works Acting Director Matthew W. Garbark has announced that the Household Hazardous Waste Drop-Off event for July will occur on Friday and Saturday, July 10 and 11.  DPW offices will be closed on Friday, July 3 in observance of Independence Day. However, curbside collections will occur as normal on Friday, July 3.  Solid Waste yards will be closed on Saturday, July 4.

Baltimore City Department of Public Works (DPW) Acting Director Matthew W. Garbark today issued the following statement on trash collection following the June 9 closure of DPW’s Eastern Sanitation Yard due to a significant number of COVID-19 cases: I want to ensure Baltimore City residents that their trash will be picked up, and ask for additional patience as DPW continues to secure and deploy necessary resources to support curbside collections and keep the Department’s employees safe. DPW is currently experiencing delays in trash collection service, which is primarily affecting residents who live in neighborhoods on the eastside of the City.

Sanitation Employees Return to Work,Trash Collections to Resume as Scheduled

Last week, after having to suspend operations at our Eastside Sanitation Yard (Bowleys Lane) to protect workers from the continuing spread of COVID-19, DPW began mobilizing other sanitation employees within the Bureau of Solid Waste. These other employees had been on permission leave (not working, but being paid) for weeks with the understanding that they would support core operations. These essential workers have been reminded of that fact, and a number of employees have returned to work.

DPW Suspends Operations at Bowleys Lane Sanitation Yard - Curbside Recycling Collections Suspended for Three Weeks

The Baltimore City Department of Public Works (DPW) Acting Director Matthew W. Garbark announced today the immediate suspension of all solid waste operations and activities at DPW’s Eastern Sanitation Yard, following a significant number of COVID-19 cases at the facility.  Acting Director Garbark also announced a citywide suspension of curbside recycling collections for three weeks in order to continue essential services following the closure of the Eastern Sanitation Yard.
