BALTIMORE, MD - The Baltimore City Department of Public Works is diverting traffic on Gay Street, in the vicinity of City Hall, due to a break on a 16-inch water main just south of the Gay Street – Saratoga Street intersection. Running water has undermined the street surface.

Gay Street traffic is being diverted at Fayette Street. Detours are posted and Special Traffic Enforcement Officers are there to keep traffic moving. Motorists are encouraged to use alternate routes away from the vicinity of the break.

A total shutdown of the broken main will not take place until 5:30 PM so as not to disrupt water services to businesses and offices along Gay Street between Water Street and Orleans Street. Customers along that corridor, and on a nearby block of Holliday and Saratoga Streets, are being notified by DPW staff of the evening water shutoff for repairs.

Once water is restored customers should allow water to run until clear if there is any cloudiness.
