The Baltimore City Department of Public Works (DPW) Fiscal Year 2017 Annual Report is now available. The 23-page report features DPW’s continued commitment to improving its water billing system, its role in the acclaimed documentary “Rat Film,” and projects to rehabilitate the City’s water and sewer infrastructure.

“The Fiscal Year 2017 Annual Report shows how DPW is committed to doing things better in order to better serve the citizens of Baltimore,” said DPW Director Rudolph S. Chow, P.E. “This  report lets citizens know about the work that we are doing and the accomplishments that we are achieving on behalf of the City.”

The publication of an annual report helps to inform stakeholders about how the agency managed its $802.5 million budget during FY 2017. The largest portion of DPW’s $532 million operating budget went toward improving the City’s aging sewer system: $154.6 million for engineering/construction management, and $129.6 million for wastewater management.

“The Fiscal Year 2017 Annual Report highlights how DPW spends the fiscal resources entrusted to us by the elected officials and the citizens of Baltimore,” Director Chow said.

In addition, the FY 2017 annual report highlights DPW’s efforts to support clean City neighborhoods. The Bureau of Solid Waste reorganized its management structure to align with the geography of the city— the Northwest, Northeast, Southwest and Southeast. To help stem illegal dumping, DPW made it easier for small commercial haulers to dispose of their loads at the Northwest Transfer Station.

A downloadable version of the report can be found on the DPW website. Copies of the report are being distributed to community centers and libraries. Citizens may also obtain the report at many DPW facilities or by contacting the DPW Communications and Community Affairs Division at 410-545-6541.
