Small Haulers to use Quarantine Road Landfill

Due to construction, the Northwest Transfer Station (NWTS), located at 5030 Reisterstown Road, will close to citizens and to small commercial haulers for two weeks beginning Monday, July 2.  The station will reopen on Monday, July 16.

During the closure, citizens are advised to use the next closest drop-off location, at 2840 Sisson Street.  Sisson Street yard is open Monday through Saturday, 9 a.m. – 7 p.m.  For bulk items, call 311 to schedule a pickup of three items or less.

Small haulers may use the Quarantine Road Landfill.  This location is also part of the City’s Small Hauler Program and will not be affected by this work.  The landfill is open to haulers Monday through Saturday, 8 a.m. - 4 p.m.

The NWTS opened to registered small, commercial haulers in April 2017.  This location was added in an effort to make it easier for small haulers to dispose of trash, reduce illegal dumping and keep the city cleaner and healthier.  

During the period from April to December 2017, data showed a 150% increase in tonnage collected by the station when compared to the same period the prior year.  There has also been a decrease in illegal dumping reported in the area around the NWTS.

Mayor Scott to Nominate Khalil Zaied as New Director of the Department of Public Works

Mayor Brandon M. Scott has announced his intent to nominate Khalil Zaied as the new Director of the Department of Public Works (DPW). Zaied, who most recently led the Department of Public Works in Champaign, Illinois, will join DPW on March 18, 2024. Previously, he was a nearly 20 year veteran of Baltimore City Government, serving as Deputy Mayor of Operations and Director of Transportation, among other roles.

Mayor Scott, City Agencies Highlight the Return of Weekly Recycling

On Monday, March 4, Mayor Brandon M. Scott, Department of Public Works Interim Director Richard J. Luna, Department of General Services Director Berke Attila, and Baltimore City Chief Administrative Officer Faith Leach joined city staff and community members to highlight the return of weekly, curbside recycling collections for Baltimore City residents, starting Tuesday, March 5.
