Public Works Director Rudy S. Chow, P.E., today announced that the 2017 Department of Public Works (DPW) Calendar is in the mail to Baltimore City residents. The highly popular calendar has become a DPW tradition for more than a decade.  It is an important tool for citizens, providing a wide range of information about DPW services and programs.

The calendar spotlights a monthly topic to help citizens better understand the important work that DPW performs.  For 2017, this includes not only information about the protection of your water and sanitary sewer lines, but also the services, such as snow removal and leaf collection, provided to citizens.

In the calendar, dates are given for DPW’s major free public events, Big Truck Day and Dam Jam,  and participation in the City’s Artscape and the Baltimore Book festivals. At the festivals, you can visit the DPW booth and talk to us in person.  Dates for the Mayor’s Spring and Fall Cleanups, and City holidays observed in 2017 are listed in the calendar.  For holidays that occur on trash or recycling days, the makeup collection day is provided.

In addition, the calendar makes it easy for citizens to find their citywide mechanical street sweeping schedule.  No need to call 311 for this. And you can look ahead and plan for the Household Hazardous Waste Drop-off days which take place April through October at DPW’s Sisson Street yard.

The calendar also has tips for residents on protecting pipes from Fats, Oils and Grease (FOG) and non-flushables.  Electric vehicle drivers can learn how to easily locate one of the many electric vehicle chargers.  This information and more is listed in the calendar.

Citizens are urged to keep the calendar handy all year to stay ahead of DPW services and events.  The calendar is free, and a Spanish version of the calendar is available by request. City residents who have not received a calendar within the next two weeks should call 311 to request one. You can also view the calendar online.
