BALTIMORE, MD - Because of progress made overnight on the water main break on Gay Street at Saratoga Street, the Baltimore City Department of Public Works has opened two lanes of Gay Street. This will be reduced to one lane over the weekend and back again to two lanes on Monday. Motorists are still advised to use caution in the area and continue using alternate routes if possible.

In order to secure a permanent fix, work will continue this weekend on the 16-inch main, valves and other utilities.

Water has been restored to that portion of Gay Street north of Saratoga Street. That area will again be without water for up to six hours tomorrow afternoon as a new water valve is installed in the street.  Customers will be notified prior to the outage on Saturday. Three water customers on Gay Street, between Lexington and Saratoga Streets, will remain without water service until tomorrow evening when all customers are expected to have full water service.

Work will continue on the 16-inch main, valves and other utilities until full restoration is completed. Then crews will be able to repair the damaged section of Gay Street and reopen it to traffic.

Once water is restored customers should allow water to run until clear if there is any cloudiness.

Citizens with water-related questions or concerns can call 311 in Baltimore City; 410-396-5352 in Baltimore County.
