BALTIMORE, MD - The Baltimore City Department of Public Works is continuing to divert traffic on Gay Street, in the vicinity of City Hall, due to a break on a 16-inch water main just south of the Gay Street – Saratoga Street intersection. The street closure will remain in place through the weekend.



Due to the damage to the main, the close proximity of other underground utilities, and the concrete overlay at the site of the break, the repair work will take a longer period of time. Water service is out along Gay Street for businesses, offices, and facilities between Lexington Street and Orleans Street. Water restoration may occur tomorrow evening.



Gay Street traffic is being diverted at Fayette Street. Detours are posted and Special Traffic Enforcement Officers will keep traffic moving. Motorists are encouraged to use alternate routes away from the vicinity of the break. Busses are also being diverted around the site. Bus commuters may wish to contact MTA about bus stops and any scheduled adjustments.

Once water is restored customers should allow water to run until clear if there is any cloudiness.
