Friday Oct 24th, 2014
October 23, 2014 (BALTIMORE, MD) — The Baltimore City Department of Public Works has filed a sewage overflow notice with the Maryland Department of the Environment and the Baltimore City Health Department regarding a sewer overflow into Maidens Choice Run, a tributary of the Gwynns Falls, near the 800 Block of Unetta Avenue.
The leak was confirmed by a DPW crew at approximately 2 p.m. and was stopped by 5 p.m. The cause of the overflow may be attributed to stormwater from the recent heavy rain that infiltrated the sanitary sewer system.
The total overflow was estimated to be 36,000 gallons. The stream has been posted and cleanup operations have begun and will continue tomorrow.
Citizens are encouraged to avoid contact with urban streams due to possible pollution.
