Former DPW Employee Pleads Guilty to Stealing more than $30,000 from the Agency

BALTIMORE, MD (November 15, 2012) – Ms. Christine Hooper, 46, a former employee of the Baltimore City Department of Public Works for over 25 years, pled guilty today to stealing funds from the agency in the way of excessive overtime and compensatory hours. Ms. Hooper was an administrative employee stationed at the Ashburton water treatment facility.
The misconduct was investigated by the Inspector General's Office and subsequent evidence led to her termination by the department. According to the judgment, Ms. Hooper received a one year suspended sentence, three years of probation, and was ordered to reimburse the city.
“The Baltimore City Department of Public Works does not tolerate willful misconduct among our employees and are satisfied with the judgment,” said Director Alfred H. Foxx. “On behalf of the department, I also want to thank and commend State’s Attorney Gregg L. Bernstein for prosecuting the case and delivering justice.”
