CITY PUBLIC WORKS DIRECTOR CALLS FOR WATER CONSERVATION IN NW BALTIMORE CITY AND NW BALTIMORE COUNTY
Saturday Jun 30th, 2012
Public Works Director Alfred H. Foxx is asking for residents of Northwest Baltimore City and Northwest Baltimore County to immediately begin water conservation measures.
Due to the impact of fallen limbs from last night's storms, electric feeds to the Pikesville Pumping Stations have been disrupted . Generators are operating at the smaller Pikesville Station but in order to meet the hot weather demands the feeds must be restored. BGE is working on that now.
Areas impacted include Park Heights, Lochearn, Pikesville, Randallstown, Pleasant Hill, Owings Mills, Reisterstown and Glyndon and surrounding areas. Water is either out or at very low pressure in these communities.
It is vital that citizens and businesses reduce their water usage immediately so that water can be available to vital services including firefighting, medical facilities, senior citizens complexes and others.
Please do not do outside watering, car washing, powerwashing, pool-filling, etc. Please do not wash clothes or dishes or do other unnecessary indoor cleaning using water until this matter is resolved. If the shower can wait please do so, but showering uses less water than filling the tub for bathing.
In addition, all Baltimore City water customers are asked to conserve during this hot weather. While the reservoirs are close to capacity, the water does need to be processed and distributed. Increased demand can reduce pressure for all our customers as plants work to meet that demand.
Once power is restored it will take time to refill our tanks and conservation will also assist with that as well. You may get water service back but your neighbors to the north will need you to continue to refrain from unnecessary water use so that the entire system can be restored. By working together we can make sure that vital needs are met as we recover from the storm and meet the demands of the heatwave.
Thank you for your cooperation.
