Big Fire Engines, Big Police Cars, Big Dump Trucks and a really BIG Fire Boat all in one

Nothing says “I Love you Mommy” better than a tiny tyke trucker all tuckered-out after Big Truck Day - and tuckered out they were! What a day of fun it was for the citizens of Baltimore, thanks to Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake and the Baltimore City Departments of Public Works, General Services, Fire, Police and Transportation. Kids could be heard honking horns all along Key Highway from 10 a.m. up until 2 p.m. as City agencies displayed their biggest vehicles on Big Truck Day at the Baltimore Museum of Industry. This FREE event was held Saturday, May 12, 2012 on the parking lot of the museum, at 1415 Key Highway. For Big Truck Day only, museum admission was reduced to $2 for adults and kids 13 and up; children under that age were admitted free.

Food trucks, balloon animals, Lego’s, coloring, hoola hoops, a running speed test and even more were on the agenda today for the crowd of nearly 2,500 that attended the event. This was nearly double last year’s attendance of 1,400. Big Truck Day gave kids and adults of all ages the opportunity learn, see, touch, sit in, sound the sirens and honk the horns on some of the biggest vehicles in the City government’s fleet. Those on display included “Big Bertha” the City’s largest Tow Truck along with Fire Engines and Trucks, Police Cars and Motorcycles, Loadpackers, Bucket Trucks, Rescue Vehicles and a REALLY, REALLY BIG Fireboat – that performed a massive water display with plumes of water shooting and arcing high up into the sky. Nearly 20 vehicles and equipment were on-show for our citizens today thanks to City employees that included Police Officers, Firefighters, Sanitation Workers and Big Truck Drivers. Baltimore Police Explorers also helped with the event.
