Broken Sewer Leads to Underground Leak

Routine sampling by Baltimore City Department of Public Works (DPW) employees last Friday, Aug. 25, found an underground overflow of sewage traced to a broken sewer pipe in the 2500 block of W. Lexington St.

DPW Municipal Trash Can Program receives SWANA Bronze Award

DPW Reports Sanitary Sewer Overflows from Aug. 18 Rain

An estimated 48,500 gallons of sewage mixed with rain water was released into the Jones Falls on Friday, Aug. 18, due to water infiltrating the sewer system during the heavy rains on that evening.

Tuesday Showers Bring Week’s Second Overflow

An estimated 570,000 gallons of sewage mixed with rain water was released into the Jones Falls on Tuesday, Aug. 15, due to water infiltrating the sewer system during the afternoon’s heavy rainstorm. This overflow event followed one on Saturday, Aug. 12, also caused by infiltration from rain.

The Baltimore City Department of Public Works estimates that 433,000 gallons of sanitary sewer/rain water was released into the Jones Falls as a result of sanitary sewer overflows due to heavy rain on the evening of Saturday, Aug. 12, 2017.
