Municipal Can Distribution Complete

Baltimore City Department of Public Works (DPW) Director Rudy S. Chow, P.E., announced today that the initial distribution of Municipal Trash Cans is complete and that the program has now transitioned into providing maintenance for the 172,000 trash cans that were distributed throughout the City over the past five months.

All 311 requests submitted prior to August 1, 2016 for non-delivered, stolen or 35-gallon exchanges will continue to be investigated and addressed as appropriate. Deliveries of these cans will continue through September 1st

There is no guarantee that any further requests by residents claiming they were missed during the initial distribution phase of the program can be fulfilled.

No further requests for exchanging 35-gallon Municipal Trash Cans will be accepted.

Maintenance of the Municipal Trash Can Program will consist of managing requests for damaged or stolen cans. All future requests for stolen or damaged Municipal Trash Cans should be reported to 311.

Requests for damaged cans will be investigated and the can will either be repaired or replaced. Stolen cans will be investigated and a verification form will have to be completed and returned by the requesting resident.

Mayor Brandon M. Scott has announced his intent to nominate Khalil Zaied as the new Director of the Department of Public Works (DPW). Zaied, who most recently led the Department of Public Works in Champaign, Illinois, will join DPW on March 18, 2024. Previously, he was a nearly 20 year veteran of Baltimore City Government, serving as Deputy Mayor of Operations and Director of Transportation, among other roles.

Mayor Scott, City Agencies Highlight the Return of Weekly Recycling

On Monday, March 4, Mayor Brandon M. Scott, Department of Public Works Interim Director Richard J. Luna, Department of General Services Director Berke Attila, and Baltimore City Chief Administrative Officer Faith Leach joined city staff and community members to highlight the return of weekly, curbside recycling collections for Baltimore City residents, starting Tuesday, March 5.
