Baltimore City Board of Estimates Approves First Landfill Tipping Fee Increase in 32 Years

The Baltimore City Board of Estimates (BOE), during its meeting on October 1, 2025, approved an increase to the City’s landfill tipping fee for the first time since 1993. The new  rate will begin November 1, 2025,  rising from $60 per ton to $127.50 per ton, plus the existing $7.50 disposal fee, bringing the total cost to $135 per ton.  Currently, the total tipping fee is $67.50, which reflects the $7.50 disposal fee in addition to the $60 base rate.

DPW Extends Public Comment on Revised Phase II Plan for the Modified Sanitary Sewer Consent Decree

The Baltimore City Department of Public Works (DPW) is extending the public comment period for the Revised Phase II Plan of the Modified Sanitary Sewer Consent Decree (MCD) to December 1, 2025The December 1 extension is being provided to ensure productive feedback from residents and community stakeholders, and to support transparency as the City of Baltimore enters the second phase of its agreement with the Maryland Department of the Environment (MDE) and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).

The Baltimore City Department of Public Works (DPW) will hold two public meetings in October to update residents and stakeholders on Baltimore’s progress in meeting the requirements of its Consent Decree regarding operations at the City’s two wastewater treatment plants: the Back River and Patapsco facilities.

Update on Baltimore City’s Water Service Line Inventory Notification Letters to Residents Begin This Fall  

The Baltimore City Department of Public Works (DPW) has announced that notification letters will soon be mailed to Baltimore residents and businesses whose properties are known or predicted to have water service lines that are made of lead or galvanized pipe. Customers with service lines made of unknown pipe material will also receive letters urging them to complete DPW’s online Self-Reporting Survey.
