Do I have to purchase a City bin to recycle?

  • The City's recycling bins are NOT REQUIRED for you to start recycling! You may use any bin as long as it is clearly marked “recycle.” You may also use cardboard boxes and/or paper bags. The only containers you CANNOT put recyclables in are plastic bags! Plastic bags interfere with the processing machinery and are therefore removed from the conveyer belt at the recycling facility.
  • “Recycling Only” stickers are available and can be applied to any receptacle used to contain recyclables. Call the Recycling Office at 410-396-4511 and one will be mailed to you.
  • Recycling is different from household garbage (it is generally clean paper, bottles and cans) so a container with a lid is not required, though they are available for our 25-gallon recycling bins.
  • Make sure you put only recyclables in your recycling bins. Regular trash and debris will not be picked up from them.
